SUMMARY
Seeking an outstanding candidate to join the R&D team responsible for the ANSYS circuit and simulation products focusing on thermal Reduced Order Modeling (ROM) techniques applied to electronics cooling and boundary condition independent (BCI) compact thermal modeling (CTM). We welcome applicants with a strong background in thermal integrity applications and simulation, with an emphasis on physics-aware machine learning (ML) algorithms, techniques and their adoption in the context of non-invasive physics-based surrogate modeling.  The successful candidate will have a solid background in scientific software development, the ability to develop novel solution approaches, and experience in the application of scientific principles to analyzing problems. 

 

The preferred candidate will join a group of talented individuals working out of our Waltham, Ma office with the remote work as an option. The Senior R&D Engineer is responsible for the development of software products and supporting systems. In this role, the Senior R&D Engineer will use advanced technical and problem-solving skills to help the team tackle complex issues, satisfy customer requirements, and accomplish development objectives.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participates in planning, architecture, and research.
  • Employs best software practices and helps to maintain them through technical reviews and mentoring, also participating in planning and architecture.
  • Performs complex software development activities that may require extensive analysis in areas including user experience, software design, solver research and implementations of new solver algorithms in C++ and Python.
  • Performs complex bug verification, release testing and beta support for assigned products.
  • Performs research on problems discovered by QA or product support and develops solutions.
  • Researches and understands the marketing requirements for a product, including target environment, performance criteria and competitive issues. May work with strategic customers or proxies to assess needs and develop solutions.
  • Works independently with minimal supervision and may take on some planning and mentoring responsibilities.
  • May be responsible for managing interns or co-ops but typically does not have direct reports.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field with 5 years’ experience, MS with 3 years’ experience, or PhD with 1 year experience  
  • Demonstrated experience with modern C++ and Agile development  
  • Demonstrated experience with Python code development      

         

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent technical knowledge and commercial experience with state-of-the-art linear macromodeling, ROM and state-space fitting algorithms 
  • Commercial experience with thermal integrity applications
  • Demonstrated experience with machine learning algorithms and techniques with GitHub code development
  • Expertise in numerical analysis 
  • Experience with software configuration management, data structures and algorithms 
  • Passion for crafting robust and efficient code 
  • Experience delivering high-quality products in a large-scale commercial software development environment 
  • Understanding of customer requirements and tools used in this domain 
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a geographically distributed team
