About ANSYS
If you've ever seen a rocket taking off, taken a plane, driven a car, used a computer, touched a mobile device, crossed a bridge, or worn a connected device, then chances are you've used a product where ANSYS played a key role. ANSYS is a global leader in numerical simulation, helping the most innovative companies deliver better products to their customers. Their extensive and powerful portfolio of simulation software enables them to solve the most complex design challenges and design products that are bound only by imagination.
Objectives
With the emergence of cloud computing offerings, digital simulation becomes accessible to a public that does not necessarily have the experience or infrastructure necessary for finite element computing: indeed, no hardware to configure, no license to manage, and if the tool is easy to use at low costs, it becomes within the reach of the designer who would not otherwise have done simulation.
However, doing remote computing introduces other constraints: the bandwidth of the network means that graphical displays must be reduced, and the permanent storage of simulation results must be reduced because in the end it is much more expensive than the calculation itself.
It is therefore useful to look at the volume of results produced by finite element solvers, and to use numerical compression techniques that will either bring the data back from the cloud or store it at a lower cost.
The trainee will evaluate and improve a column selection method with error estimator for temporal PDE results reduction. Prototyping will be done in python with possibly parts in C++.
