SUMMARY
The R&D Engineer II contributes to the development of the Synopsys multiphysics simulation products Mechanical APDL and LS-DYNA. In this role, the R&D Engineer II will collaborate with a team of expert professionals to understand and satisfy customer requirements and develop solutions for complex issues to accomplish development objectives. The successful candidate will be experienced in numerical linear algebra theory and programming and related parallel processing environments to design and develop robust, efficient algorithms on modern hardware architectures. This role comprises both research aspects (improving existing solvers or developing new ones) and software engineering, e.g., componentization of existing solvers.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Research and development of linear equation solvers.Design and evolve APIs to improve usability and integration.
- Collaborate with domain experts to translate technical requirements into design specs.
- Draft documentation.
- Help coordinate project timelines and communicate across multiple development teams.
- Investigate problems discovered by QA or product support and develop solutions.
- Works under the general supervision of a development manager.
- Participates in planning, architecture, and research.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- BS in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, or other natural science disciplines with 2 years’ experience or MS.
- Strong experience with numerical linear algebra, in particular the solution of large, sparse linear systems using direct and/or preconditioned iterative solvers.
- Strong experience in high-performance computing, in particular distributed-memory parallelism.
- Strong experience with software design, modularization and API development.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (in English).
- Strong understanding of data structures and data handling algorithms.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Driven and willing to learn.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to learn quickly and to collaborate with others in a geographically distributed team.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of or experience with GPU programming.
- Familiarity with solver libraries (e.g., PETSc, Trilinos, Pardiso, MUMPS).
- Familiarity with DevOps tooling and build/package management (e.g., CMake, Azure DevOps, Conan, Docker, CI/CD pipelines).Passion for crafting robust and efficient code.
- Understanding of customer requirements and tools used in this domain.
- Knowledge of or experience with CAE.
- Knowledge of or experience with Linux operating systems.
- Ability to work independently and manage one's time.
- Proficiency in Fortran and C/C++.
