Lumerical tools are used for a wide variety of applications, from photonic integrated circuits for datacom and sensing to full optical systems for consumer electronics.

You will work in a highly collaborative and dynamic team environment. In this internship, you will support Optics R&D team. This full-time position starts on January 8th, 2024 and concludes on April 19th, 2024.


In this internship, you will focus on developing solutions for photonic design automation.

  • Develop graphical user interfaces for design automation workflows.
  • Develop and maintain design automation workflows for passive and active photonic components.
  • Automate development process and verification process for photonic compact models.
  • Propose, prototype, and validate new design methodologies and product features.

Minimum qualifications

  • Passion for photonics and software development.
  • Pursuing a graduate degree in electrical engineering, physics, or related field, with a focus on photonics and/or electronics.
  • Programming experience with Python, C++, C, or similar languages.
  • Experience using Lumerical’s tools and/or other photonic simulation tools.
  • Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English.

Preferred qualifications

  • Software development experience, especially on graphical user interfaces.
  • Design experience for various active and passive photonic components.
  • Knowledge of photonic compact modelling for use in circuit simulations.
  • Experience in photonic IC design and tape-out using EDA tools (e.g., Klayout, Mentor, Cadence).
  • Knowledge of the photonic Industry and ecosystem.
