SUMMARY
The R&D Engineer contributes to the development of software products and supporting systems. As part of the Optics Solutions team, the R&D Engineer will collaborate with a group of expert professionals to understand customer requirements and accomplish development objectives to advance Ansys leadership in optics and photonics simulation.   

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs basic development activities, including the design, prototyping, implementation, maintenance, testing and documentation of new design methodologies and product features
  • Learns and employs best practices
  • Performs basic bug verification, release testing and beta support for assigned products
  • Researches problems discovered by QA or product support and develops solutions
  • Understands the marketing requirements for a product, including target environment, performance criteria and competitive issues
  • Demonstrates software capabilities to customers, using industry-relevant examples
  • Works under the close supervision of a development manager or lead engineer
  • Communicates and coordinates across multiple geographically distributed teams involved in joint projects

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS in Electrical Engineering with emphasis on optics and/or photonics, Optical Engineering, Optical Sciences, Physics, or related field
  • Experience with the design and simulation of optical and/or photonic products
  • Experience programming with C++, C#, Matlab, Python, scripting languages, or similar          

      

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Technical knowledge and experience with optical and/or photonic engineering, including modeling, design, fabrication, testing, and/or building of components or systems for applications such as AR/VR, image sensors, cameras, displays, metrology, datacom, LiDAR, sensing, etc.    
  • Experience with Ansys Lumerical tools for Photonic Multiphysics simulation, or other commercial photonic software
  • Experience with Ansys Zemax OpticStudio, Ansys Speos, or other commercial raytrace software
  • Can demonstrate technical mastery of a project; understand and communicate the project overview as well as in-depth details
  • Experience in a large-scale commercial software development environment
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
