The R&D Engineer II is responsible for the development of software products and supporting systems. In this role you will use advanced technical and problem-solving skills to help your team tackle complex issues, satisfy customer requirements, and accomplish development objectives.


You will focus on developing and supporting solvers for photonic and optoelectronic device simulation using numerical methods for computational electromagnetics and semiconductor device simulation. You will be part of an experienced R&D team committed to developing algorithms and solvers for a broad range of emerging photonics applications, including high-speed datacom, 5G, and autonomous driving systems. Success depends on strong analytical skill, experience with a broad range of numerical techniques, and the ability to make the connection between simulation and real-life.    


KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Participates in planning, architecture and research.
  • Performs complex development activities that may require extensive analysis in areas including user experience, software design and solver research.
  • Employs best practices and helps to maintain them through technical reviews and mentoring.
  • Performs complex bug verification, release testing and beta support for assigned products. Researches problems discovered by QA or product support and develops solutions.
  • Researches and understands the marketing requirements for a product, including target environment, performance criteria and competitive issues. May work with strategic customers or proxies to assess needs and develop solutions.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Required Education and Degree Type: BS in Engineering, Physics, or related field with 2 years' experience or MS
  • Programming experience with C++
  • Excellent technical knowledge and experience with the implementation of computational methods for photonic/RF/microwave electromagnetic device simulation, including FDTD and eigenmode analysis of Maxwell's equations 
  • Excellent technical knowledge and experience with the implementation of numerical methods for optoelectronic device simulation, including semiconductor charge transport and gain calculations

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD in Engineering, Physics or related field
  • Passion for crafting robust and efficient code
  • Experience delivering high-quality products in a large-scale commercial software development environment
  • Understanding of customer requirements and tools used in this domain
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a geographically distributed team
