Summary / Role Purpose  

Join the Ansys Student Internship Program to apply your education to solve real world engineering problems, advance career skills and experience work at Ansys. You will be part of the Ansys Lumerical team where you will apply modern artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) techniques to improve the design process of photonic devices. The internship will run for 4 months from September to December 2024. This is a fully remote position.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Setup and run simulations of photonic devices on Ansys Lumerical FDTD via Python.
  • Select, compare, and benchmark AI/ML-based optimization algorithms for photonic devices.
  • Collaborate with other Ansys researchers on developing and testing leading-edge numerical methods.
  • Present results to members of the R&D team and to external partners and collaborators.
  • Learn and follow best practices in software engineering.

 

Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience 

  • Required Education and Degree Type: Pursuing PhD program in Mathematics, Engineering, Physics or Computer Science.  
  • Basic knowledge of electromagnetics (Maxwell’s equations) and numerical analysis
  • Proficiency in Python 
  • Software development principals (git, unit testing) 
  • Ability to learn quickly and to work closely with others 

 

Preferred Qualifications and Skills 

  • Experience using Ansys Lumerical FDTD or similar photonics simulation tools
  • Basic understanding of numerical optimization algorithms
  • Software development experience on larger teams
  • Demonstrated success in applying AI/ML concepts in engineering simulations
