As a member of the Lumerical Solutions Group, you will take on challenging R&D problems, advance our leadership in photonic simulation, and collaborate with partners to build a successful photonic design ecosystem.

You will work in a highly collaborative and dynamic team environment. In this internship, you will support Electronics and Semiconductor Business Unit. This position starts in August 2021 and concludes in December 2021.



In this internship, you will focus on developing solutions for photonic integrated circuits design, ranging from component-level multiphysics simulation to circuit-level simulation using photonic compact models.

  • Propose, prototype, and validate new design methodologies and product features
  • Develop and maintain design automation workflows for photonic layouts and simulations
  • Collaborate with foundry partners on photonic PDK and reference flow development
  • Develop integration with EDA tools for complete design automation solutions
  • Create and streamline simulation workflows for various photonic components
  • Develop photonic compact models and automate the development process



  • Passion for photonics and simulation
  • Pursuing graduate degree in electrical engineering, physics, or related field, with a focus on photonics
  • Experience in integrated photonic components and/or circuits design using foundry processes
  • Experience using Lumerical’s tools and/or other photonic simulation tools
  • Programming experience with Python, MATLAB, or similar languages
  • Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English



  • Knowledge of the photonic Industry and ecosystem
  • Experience in photonic IC design and tape-out using EDA tools (e.g., Klayout, Mentor, Cadence)
  • Experience in photonic compact modelling for use in circuit simulations
