Validation of the correctness of sensor simulation outputs

Summary / Internship Purpose

Autonomous vehicles will drive millions of kilometers in the virtual world before the first driverless cars hit the road. Ansys is building a software toolchain to demonstrate safety in the virtual world prior to commercial deployment. We invite you to join the team that enables this disruptive technology.

The AVxcelerate products enable simulating 3D environments including objects with material optical properties and outputs of sensors placed on the vehicle driving on the road. We can manage several types of sensors, like camera, thermal camera, LiDAR, RADAR, etc. We need to improve the efficiency of correlation we perform to make sure AVxcelerate users can rely on physics-based simulations with the constraint of Real-Time, for which some compromises must be found for the speed of computation at the expense of accuracy.

For this reason, it is critical, for each type of simulated sensor, to check the correctness of the computed outputs from a physical point of view. This validation is based on a large set of techniques that are today time expensive and need to be improved in terms of efficiency.

The objective of this internship is to propose, for each type of sensor and even for each specific use case when relevant, disruptive and more efficient approaches to validate the correctness of the simulated sensors outputs.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • For each type of sensor, define the best technique and automation to apply within the Product Verification team so that the test cases implemented when validating new features ensure the simulated sensor outputs are accurate and consistent with physical models.

  • Do the inventory of all AVxcelerate existing features with simulated sensor outputs, and the associated test cases; identify the features for which the validation techniques can be improved in terms of efficiency, automation and coverage.

Minimum Qualifications and Skills

  • Significant experience with programming language (ideally C#) and scripting language (ideally Python)

  • Thorough knowledge of optics and sensors

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Proficient with Windows and Linux operating

  • Experience with automation and/or BDD frameworks

  • Basic understanding of software testing and verification processes; ISTQB certification(s) is(are) an asset

  • A thorough and careful approach to work; close attention to detail and quality; strong analytical skills

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

Details

  • Duration: 6 months

  • Location: Valbonne, France
