Implementing GPU-Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) 


Summary / Role Purpose 

In the context of our Autonomous Vehicle simulations (our AV accelerate products line), our rendering team develops physics-based sensors (visible & Therma) which are used by our clients to train perception algorithms. As such, it is needed to continually improve (or add items) the accuracy of the simulated world and their effects such as:  

  • Blooming effect  

  • Point spread function 

  • Diffraction spike (direct and indirect light source) 


To be able to render these features accurately and efficiently, it would be interesting to transform the spectral rendered images into the frequency domain using FFT algorithm which would allow to apply more efficiently filter operation (ex: low filter, high filter, etc..). Finally, reverse the filter results from the frequency domain to the spectral domain with expected effect (Blooming, Point spread, etc...). The challenges of this work will rely on the efficiency of the implemented algorithm to keep real time simulation. 


Key Duties and Responsibilities 

As intern, you will be part of the AVx Rendering team which is responsible for implementing the physic-based rendering engine along physics-based Camera (visible & Thermal). The goal of the internship is to implement different FFT (Fast Fourier transform) algorithms under CPU as a first step and under GPU as a second step. This will also involve benchmarking the implementation to choose the most efficient algorithms. The implementation will be done with C# (for CPU) and OpenGL (for GPU). Finally, we would like to apply these implementations on the application features such as the one mentioned above.  


Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience 

You are validating a Master 2 of software engineering or equivalent graduation certificate with have high interest in image processing and rendering simulation. 


Preferred Qualifications and Skills  

Language: C#/C++, OpenGL is a plus 

Skills: Math and image signal processing
