Summary / Role Purpose


Ansys customers use our safety critical software framework, tools to develop, validate and bug free, (many) automatic regulatory certified code on a wide variety of applications, including Aircraft Flight Controls, Engine controls, Braking Systems, Cockpit Display Systems, Mission Systems. Our automotive customers are using these software technology frameworks for safety and managing efficiently power and thermal management particularly in next-gen sub-systems such as Battery Management Systems, Powertrain, Electric Power Steering, or drive by wire. The railways industry is also frequently relying on applications like Interlocking, Signaling, Automatic Train Operation and Control, On board and on ground equipment.


ANSYS's embedded software solutions have been present on the Japanese market for more than a decade. As several aerospace and automotive programs are selecting ANSYS technology to secure and streamline their safety-critical software development and certification, we are adapting to the demand by growing our local team of application engineers.


The Senior Application Engineer is responsible for leveraging advanced-level engineering knowledge and relationships to help customers solving complex engineering problems using Ansys software and to support regional accounts with significant impact on software revenue. The role encompasses all the technical support of our customers, the provision of technical credibility in supporting sales campaigns and the delivery of professional services in customer engagements. The specialization is within Embedded Software application group, with potentially cross-discipline solution aspects.


Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Apply advanced engineering expertise and knowledge of Embedded Software Development, Validation and Certification to provide highest level technical support to customers and Channel Partners, ensuring high-quality, timely customer service that results in improved customer satisfaction and productivity.
  • Own the customer problems, proactively engage with selected accounts to provide comprehensive Safety-Critical Embedded Software solutions. Work independently and contribute to all technical activities throughout the sales opportunity lifecycle, interact with customers to understand their product design needs and engineering design workflows and articulate Ansys’ value proposition.
  • Instruct intermediate and/or advanced training classes. Scope and deliver professional services for projects which might include collaborative work with other field engineers in the same or different disciplines.
  • Gather customer requirements to support the improvement of Ansys software and collaborate with the Ansys product development teams to translate customer requirements into new product capabilities. Test new releases on industrial problems.
  • Participates in internal corporate initiatives to share knowledge and to create best practices, inside the discipline and cross-disciplines.


Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience

  • Required education and degree type: BS, MS or PhD in Computer science, Aerospace, Applied Physics or related field.
  • Required minimum years of professional experience in an engineering software environment: Batchelor of Science+5 years, Master of Science+3 years or PhD+0.
  • Demonstrated use of relevant Ansys software or knowledge of other commercial embedded software development and V&V packages.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to facilitate and conduct webinars and presentations to customers and to large conference audience.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects which are complex in nature and across diverse teams and locations.
  • Demonstrated skills in writing and presenting in fluent English.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of time.
  • Master C/C++ and software development processes (configuration management, build process, integration)
  • Knowledge of software safety standards (any amongst ISO 26262, DO-178B/C, EN 50128, IEC 61508, IEC 60880)
  • Good knowledge of embedded platforms: RTOSes, BSPs, interrupts, etc


Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Automotive, aerospace, rail, and nuclear experience is preferred
  • First-hand experience of software certification with any of those standards: ISO 26262, DO-178B/C, EN 50128, IEC 61508, IEC 60880
  • ANSYS SCADE or other model-based system or software design tools experience
  • Model based system engineering experience is preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to understand business requirements and translate these into an execution plan that delivers value and meets business goals.
  • Preferred education and years of professional experience in an engineering software environment: BS+8, MS+6 or PhD+3
  • Ability to travel up to 40% of time
