Summary / Role Purpose 

Join the Ansys Customer Excellence team to partner with our customers to engineer what's ahead, solve their real-world engineering problems, deploy Ansys software in their design workflows, and grow Ansys’ business. As a hands-on subject matter expert, you will use expert-level engineering knowledge to provide technical pre-sales support, perform professional services, and help translate customer requirements into exciting new product features. The Senior Application Engineer (m/f/d) will be working within multi-disciplinary teams to create pervasive simulation solutions, advance your industry knowledge, and grow the business impact. 

This role is in the LS-DYNA SME-Germany Team and will support customers in solving complex engineering problems with LS-DYNA. The focus is on simulation projects to provide solutions to enterprise customers in the automotive industry for applications like crashworthiness, occupant and pedestrian safety analysis. The Senior Application Engineer will use engineering knowledge to solve complex simulation problems in challenging projects, find solutions to a wide variety of technical challenges and channel customer feedback to improve Ansys products. The Senior Application Engineer will be part of a dynamic team of enthusiastic and passionate engineers striving to deliver highest quality solutions to our customers, advancing your knowledge, experience, and your impact on the success of our customers and Ansys. 

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Lead in coordinating and executing all technical activities throughout the sales opportunity lifecycle such as technical discovery, negotiate technical success criteria, product presentations, demonstrations and evaluations. Work independently within multi-disciplinary teams. 

  • Apply engineering expertise and knowledge of simulation techniques to run challenging projects for important customers, e.g., from the automotive industry. 

  • Interact with customers to understand their product design needs and engineering design workflows; analyze how to address customers’ requirements using Ansys products and platform, articulate Ansys’ value proposition. 

  • Develop, test, and improve new methods for experienced LS-DYNA users, create documentation and demonstrate to customers.  

  • Adhere to support processes to ensure high-quality, timely customer service that results in customer satisfaction. 

  • Assist in creating differentiating simulation solutions using the Ansys platform and products; deploy the solutions within customers’ design workflows. 

  • Develop competence as a subject matter expert and industry expert in one or more application areas. 

  • Collaborate with the Ansys product development teams to translate customer requirements into exciting new product features; perform quality assurance and test new features/releases of Ansys products on industrial problems, support bug fixes, develop application best practices. 

  • Support Ansys Sales and field/digital marketing by: 

  • conducting demonstrations,  

  • webinars, online training,  

  • author conference presentations, 

  • and other meetings. 

  • Contribute to consulting services, conduct introductory and/or intermediate training classes. 

 

Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience 

  • Required education and degree type: BS or MS or PhD in Engineering or related field 

  • Required minimum years of professional experience in an engineering software environment: BS+5, MS+3, or PhD+0 

  • Demonstrated use of LS-DYNA knowledge or of other structural CAE software (Abaqus, Radioss, Nastran, OptiStruct, Pam-Crash, etc.) 

  • Experience in one application field of LS-DYNA, e.g. crash, occupant or process simulation 

  • Strong fundamentals in structural mechanics and the Finite Element method. 

  • Logical problem-solving, strong interpersonal and communication skills 

  • Ability to work on multiple projects which are complex in nature across geographically diverse locations. 

  • Strong organizational and time management skills, possesses a sense of urgency 

  • Projects a professional image and demonstrates business acumen, driven to succeed 

  • Enjoy helping others, empathic and customer-oriented setting. 

  • Expertise in experimental testing for parameter characterization  

  • Fluent in writing and speaking German and English 

  • Ability to travel domestically up to 25% of time 

 

Preferred Qualifications and Skills 

  • Preferred education and years of professional experience in an engineering software environment: BS+8, MS+6, or PhD+3 

  • 2 years of experience in application engineering, customer support, or consulting services type customer facing roles using engineering software  

  • Work experience in Linux environment and HPC 

  • Ability to interact effectively with senior business managers and C-level executives 

  • Crashworthiness, impact, drop test, and forming with explicit dynamic software 

  • Experience solving industrial problems with LS-DYNA explicit and implicit 

  • Experience with pre-processing tools like ANSA or Hypermesh 

  • Knowledge of Ansys Workbench, LS-PrePost, and LS-RUN 

  • Experience with non-linear and rate-sensitive materials (foams, plastics, rubbers, etc.) 

  • Experience with metal plasticity and failure, hyper-elasticity, and composite materials 

  • Basic programing and scripting skills, e.g. with Python, Perl, bash
