Summary / Role Purpose  

The Senior R&D Verification Engineer joins the Mechanical Business Unit and is responsible for the software testing of ANSYS applications such as MAPDL. This role uses advanced engineering and software skills to assess how well the product meets customer needs for functionality and usability and ensures that product requirements and quality standards are met. The role works closely with other members of the product creation team and communicates with technical specialists on product issues. The Senior R&D Verification engineer will research new engineering features to create analytical and user scenario test cases to evaluate the functionality and performance of capabilities being added to our engineering simulation software.  As part of the software testing of the Mechanical APDL product, a Senior R&D Verification engineer creates and maintains automated testing scripts and software tools.  This person participates in requirements planning, design reviews, investigates defects and coordinates with other teams to address cross-team dependencies. 

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Specify and write test cases, create, modify, and update existing tests, write and maintain test scripts 

  • Perform functional, application, regression, and performance testing in manual and/or automated test environments 

  • Create test plans and contribute to testing initiatives, responsible for coverage analysis and testing metrics in specific areas, and participate in defect management 

  • Apply technical and professional knowledge in specialized areas and investigate complex product issues and problems 

  • Analyze product requirements and develop tests for new features within the MAPDL product. Research literature for reference solutions. 

  • Work in a variety of computing environments: Windows, Linux, VM’s, Compute Clusters, Cloud 

  • Participate in design and code reviews and in the planning and implementation of verification initiatives 

  • Improve and deploy testing strategies and methodologies for the automation of tests  

  • Work closely with other members of the product creation team and communicate with technical support specialists on product issues  

  • Coordinate with other teams to address cross-team dependencies 
     

Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience 

  • BS in Mechanical, Civil, Structural, or Aerospace Engineering with 5 years of experience, MS with 3 years of experience, or PhD with one year of experience 

  • Strong computing skills with demonstrated knowledge of Continuum/Structural Mechanics and Numerical Methods 

  • Commercial experience using Ansys APDL/Workbench or similar FEA software in an engineering environment 

  • Commercial experience performing troubleshooting by simplifying complex systems, debugging, and finding root causes 

  • Five years of experience in a related position performing linear and nonlinear finite element analysis 

 

Preferred Qualifications and Skills 

  • Excellent technical knowledge and commercial experience with the ANSYS MAPDL product. 

  • Experience delivering high-quality products in a large-scale commercial organization  

  • Understanding of customer requirements and tools used in this domain 

  • Experience in performing nonlinear contact analysis and nonlinear transient dynamic analysis 

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills 

  • Ability to learn quickly and to collaborate with others in a geographically distributed team 

  • Good attention to detail and ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects and workstreams 

  • Ability to work autonomously, passion for exploring new topics, and strong troubleshooting skills 

  • Experience using high-performance computing for computer simulations 

  • Experience in one or more programming or scripting languages such as Python and bash
