Summary / Role Purpose

The Senior R&D Engineer will be part of a team which is responsible for research, design, and implementation of pre-processing functionality in LS-PrePost and LS-Dyna. This role requires an analytical mind with strong interest in mesh generation, computational geometry and numerical methods. Key responsibilities are to maintain and expand surface meshing, and solid meshing algorithms. Initial focus would be to develop meshing algorithms for metal forming. This role also includes exposure and development of geometric modeling functionality. Another area gaining traction is IGA which allows for tighter coupling of design and analysis. This position is for LS-PrePost but all meshing functionality is developed to allow for exposure in different products. The successful candidate can expect to be engaged in all stages of code and capability planning, research, creation and evolution of LS-PrePost functionality, and to work closely with other members of the software development team.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs complex development and research activities that requires technical expertise in the core meshing algorithms and infrastructure of LS-PrePost.

  • Develop, maintain and extend the LS-PrePost to add new meshing tools

  • Participates in planning, architecture, and research at a project level to facilitate exposure and development of meshing and pre-processing functionality for LS-PrePost.

  • Develops and employs best practices and maintains them through technical reviews and mentoring.

  • Researches problems discovered by QA or product support and develops solutions, collaborating with the QA/support team.

  • Researches and understands the marketing requirements for products, including target environment, performance criteria and competitive issues. May work with strategic customers or proxies to assess needs and develop solutions.

  • Works independently without direct supervision and helps with developing technical roadmaps for LS-Pre/Post functionality.

Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience

  • Bachelors in Engineering, Computational Geometry or Mathematics, with 5 years’ experience, Masters with 3 years’ experience, or PhD with 1 years’ experience

  • Expertise in mesh generation or computational geometry

  • Commercial software development experience

  • Solid, demonstrable experience with C / C++

  • Experience in scripting languages like python would be a plus

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Keen interest in programming and algorithm development.

  • Strong analytical skills.

  • Ability to translate industrial needs into technology roadmaps and development plans

  • Ability to overcome obstacles and drive projects to completion

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and geographies, and to mentor junior developers
