Senior R&D Engineer (Node.js)

Summary / Role Purpose  

The Senior R&D Engineer joins the Release Management Unit and is responsible for the development of Ansys Licensing as a Service (LaaS), a high-availability RESTful service hosted on Azure. In this role, the Senior R&D Engineer will use advanced technical and problem-solving skills to help the team tackle complex issues, satisfy customer requirements, and accomplish development objectives.  Licensing as a Service is Ansys’s new platform for a web-hosted licensing solution that is quickly growing and striving to reach its potential. LaaS hosts multiple license models each with their own requirements and use case. It is a business-critical service that requires rigorous and thorough testing to ensure it meets, and continues to meet, the stringent requirements of its growing user base. 

Key Duties and Responsibilities 

• Participates in planning, architecture, and research 

• Performs complex development activities that may require extensive analysis in areas including user experience, software design and solver research 

• Employs best practices and helps to maintain them through technical reviews and mentoring 

• Performs complex bug verification, release testing and beta support for assigned products.  

• Researches problems discovered by QA or product support and develops solutions 

• Researches and understands the marketing requirements for a product, including target environment, performance criteria and competitive issues. May work with strategic customers or proxies to assess needs and develop solutions 

• Works independently with minimal supervision and may take on some planning and mentoring responsibilities 

Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience 

• BS in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 5 years’ experience, MS with 3 years’ experience, or PhD with 1 year experience  

• Strong computing skills with demonstrated knowledge of RESTful APIs, JSON schemas, sustainable development practices, requirements and needs of maintaining a business-critical service 

• Technical knowledge and commercial experience with developing a distributed API service written in TypeScript in an Agile development environment 

Preferred Qualifications and Skills 

• Excellent technical knowledge and commercial experience with OpenAPI specifications, Azure tools and resources (Bicep, Application Insights, Cosmos DB, Kubernetes, etc.), Node.js  

• Experience delivering high-quality products in a large-scale commercial organization  

• Understanding of customer requirements and tools used in this domain 

• Good communication and interpersonal skills 

• Ability to learn quickly and to collaborate with others in a geographically distributed team
