Summary / Role Purpose

The Sr. Azure Platform Engineer is a cloud computing expert who is responsible for designing, deploying, and managing applications and services on the Microsoft Azure platform. Azure Engineers work with developers, architects, and other stakeholders to ensure that the cloud solutions meet the business needs.  This individual will play a key role in developing standardized DevOps CI/CD processes and reusable components using Infrastructure-as-Code. 

The role requires execution of tactical day-to-day initiatives as well as contributing to the fulfillment of the long-term Enterprise Architecture strategy and in support of our long-term digital transformation initiatives.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Infrastructure Provisioning and Management:

• Design, implement, and maintain cloud infrastructure and services using Azure resources such as logic apps, storage accounts, databases, app services, containers, networking, security, and automation.
• Develop and execute scripts and templates to automate the provisioning, configuration, and deployment of cloud resources and applications using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform, Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates, Biceps, or Azure CLI/PowerShell scripts.
• Manage Azure subscriptions, resource groups, and role-based access control (RBAC).
• Managing an entire Zone within our Enterprise Azure Subscription.

System Administration and Monitoring:

• Perform system administration tasks such as patching, updates, and configuration management for Azure resources.
• Monitor and troubleshoot the performance, availability, and security of cloud solutions using solutions like Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights.
• Monitor system performance, availability, and health metrics, and respond to alerts and incidents.
• Implement security best practices, including network security groups, Azure Firewall, and Azure Security Center.
• Monitor and manage our Azure cloud costs and monthly consumption to ensure adherence to budgetary constraints.
• Provide L3 support as needed.

Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity:

• Implement disaster recovery and business continuity strategies using Azure services like Azure Backup, Azure Site Recovery, and Azure Traffic Manager.
• Test and validate disaster recovery plans and procedures.

Automation and DevOps:

• Collaborate with developers and architects to design and implement cloud-native applications and microservices using Azure DevOps and CI/CD tools and practices.
• Integrate Azure services with DevOps tools and practices for continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD).
• Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and configuration management solutions for consistent and repeatable deployments.
• Automate deployment processes using Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or other CI/CD tools.

Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or related field.
• A minimum of 8+ years related experience.
• Demonstrated ability working in collaborative team environment with other engineers and architects, setting priorities, and achieving results
• Deep understanding of Microsoft Azure services, architecture, and best practices.
• Experience with DevOps principles and practices, including continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD), automation, monitoring, and infrastructure as code (IaC).
• Proficiency in using CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps, Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar for automating software delivery processes.
• Strong skills in scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash) and familiarity with automation tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).
• Knowledge of container technologies (e.g., Docker) and orchestration platforms (e.g., Kubernetes).
• Understanding of cloud networking architectures, cloud security best practices, and tools to protect and manage cloud resources and data.
• Ability to manage projects efficiently, working under deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Experience with Agile and Scrum methodologies is often preferred.
• Works independently with minimal supervision

Preferred Additional Skills:

• Azure Certifications such as Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900), Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104), Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-303 and AZ-304), or Azure DevOps Engineer Expert (AZ-400) are preferred.
