As an R&D Engineer II you will contribute to the development and release of Ansys CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) capabilities for the Python ecosystem.  You are expected to engage in all stages of code and capability planning, creation, and evolution, and to work closely with other groups as they adopt PyAnsys capabilities.  Emphasis is on planning and executing work at the iteration (approximately monthly) time scale.  You will take part in both the development of new capabilities as well as modernizing our legacy rich CFD so a keen interest in applying modern concepts such as micro-services and componentization is needed to succeed.



  • Collaborate with other development, documentation and testing professionals in planning and developing the user-facing scripting and API environment for Ansys CFD products.
  • Design, develop and extend architecture for a command and query-based system, exposed to Python scripting, and involving aspects such as data model management and validation and User Interface integration.
  • Coordinate with and support customer support representatives involved in leveraging and deploying CFD products to the Python ecosystem.
  • Work efficiently in a complex mixed language code base, written primarily in Python and C/C++, on Windows and Linux
  • Collaboratively diagnose and resolve defects related to of the CFD products from customer Python environments.  Participate in release testing and beta support.
  • Work with the broader team to understand the marketing requirements for a product, including target environment, performance criteria and competitive issues.
  • Contribute to the software development lifecycle by planning and completing tasks within the team’s test-driven iterative/incremental, and broader agile practices.



  • BS in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 2 years’ experience or MS.
  • Strong skills and demonstrable experience with Python development. 
  • Familiarity with Google RPC (gRPC) and containerization tools like Docker, Kubernetes 



  • Other areas you should be keen to learn include: C++, Boost
  • Have worked with additional programming languages such as Java, C#.  Familiarity with development tools such as git and Visual Studio or Visual Studio Code.
  • Really great if you have experience with popular Python based capabilities such as Jupyter Notebooks, Matplotlib, Pandas, or NumPy
  • Familiarity with infrastructure concepts such as continuous integration/continuous deployment concepts, GitHub, database technology (SQL, NoSQL).
  • Experience in a large-scale commercial software development environment
  • Ability to learn quickly, work collaboratively and effectively communicate in a geographically distributed team
