Description of this 6 month master level internship in English, based in Paris or Toulon area (French description follows below). Candidates have to be registered at a French engineering school or university at master level and this will be their end of study internship.


Intern – Application Engineering – Optics at Ansys, best-in-class optical software solutions on the market

Summary/Role Purpose
Working in Ansys Customer Excellence (ACE) as an Application Engineer means building bridges between product development, sales and customers. An internship in the optics ACE team will expose you to the product development lifecycle, to business intelligence and to hands-on problem solving in customer-facing situations. The team deals with three optical software: Lumerical, Zemax OpticStudio and Speos.

The purpose of the internship is double, focusing on the Speos software:
•    create a learning track for new Speos users.
•    develop an optimization plugin in cooperation with the development team , applied to a real-world use-case.

By creating the learning track, you will play a central role in getting new users up to speed by with text, pictures and videos in SCORM (Shareable Content Object Reference Model). New users should be able to learn Speos on their own, at their own rhythm, at any time or place using the online training platform Ansys Learning Hub. This will expose you to new customer technical needs and develop your business acumen.

By developing an optimization plugin, you will add value to Speos by customize the software to run optimization algorithms. You will first identify which optimization algorithms best complements the existing ones and then implement it using the templates and documentation. This will expose you to the development environment of Ansys and develop your analytical skills.
You will create an example using this plugin to optimize a smart speaker lightguide, smartphone display backlighting or similar applications.

Additionally, you will work closely with the extended optics and photonics team of Ansys, linking Speos, Zemax OpticStudio and Lumerical for comprehensive optical workflows spanning from the nanoscale to the system integration scale.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
•    Content creation for an online training platform using SCORM
•    Gather customer feedback about optimization needs
•    Plugin (.dll) development for embedded optimization
•    Create technical content
•    Network within the Ansys Customer Excellence team to learn various job functions such as presales support, post sales technical support, consulting services, etc.
•    Learn more about optical simulation tools and how it is used by engineers to save time and money
Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience
•    Currently enrolled as a master level engineering student in a French higher education institution; in a course involving Optical or Electrical Engineering or Physics with a strong focus on Optics, Photonics or related fields
•    Basic understanding of physics simulation processes and tools
•    Demonstrated skills in writing, understanding, and presenting in fluent English
•    Basic experience in scripting and programming (Python, C# ,C++…)
•    Strong problem solving, communication and time management skills
•    Motivated to learn
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
•    Experience with C# or other object-oriented programming languages for plugin (.DLL) development
•    Knowledge about optimization algorithms
•    Knowledge about ray tracing theory
•    Experience with video editing and online content creation
•    Experience in Lighting, Optics or Photonics simulation tools (Speos, Zemax OpticStudio, Code V, LightTools etc.)

Description du stage
Le département Ansys Customer Excellence (ACE) est au carrefour entre le développement produit, la vente et les clients. Un stage dans l’équipe optique d’ACE en ingénierie d’application vous exposera au cycle de développement logiciel, à l’approche business et au concret de la résolution des problèmes clients. L’équipe gère trois logiciels qui sont Lumerical, Zemax OpticStudio et Speos.

Le sujet de ce stage se décline en deux volets, en utilisant le logiciel Speos :
•    Créer un parcours de formation en ligne pour les nouveaux utilisateurs Speos
•    Développer un plugin d’optimisation en collaboration avec l’équipe de développement, en l’appliquant à un cas concret.

En créant un parcours de formation, vous jouerez un rôle crucial dans formation des nouveaux utilisateurs. Le contenu texte, d’images et de vidéos sera implémenté en utilisant SCORM (Shareable Content Object Reference Model). Le but est que les nouveaux utilisateurs puissent apprendre Speos en autonomie, à leur rythme, ou bon leur semble, via la plateforme en ligne Ansys Learning Hub. Cela vous exposera aux besoins de nouveaux clients et développera votre sens des affaires.

En développant un plugin d’optimisation, vous ajouterez de la valeur technique à Speos en personnalisant le logiciel. Vous identifierez en premier lieu quel algorithme d’optimisation complémente le mieux l’existant, puis vous l’implémenterez en utilisant le template et la documentation disponible. Ceci vous exposera à l’environnement de développement d’Ansys et sollicitera vos capacités analytiques. Vous créerez enfin un exemple utilisant ce plugin pour optimiser le guide de lumière d’un haut-parleur connecté, le retro éclairage d’un écran de téléphone, ou une application similaire.

En outre, vous travaillerez en étroite collaboration avec l’équipe optique et phonique d’Ansys, liant Speos, Zemax OpticStudio et Lumerical pour des applications de l’échelle nano à l’échelle de l’intégration système.


Tâches et Responsabilités :
•    Création de contenu pour une plateforme de formation en ligne en utilisant SCORM
•    Synthèse de retours clients concernant les besoins en optimisation
•    Développement d’un plugin (.dll) pour l’optimisation intégrée à Speos
•    Création de contenu technique
•    Développer son réseau au sein de Ansys Customer Excellence pour découvrir de multiples postes tels que l’avant-vente, le support technique après-vente, les services etc.
•    Approfondir votre connaissance des outils de simulation optique et comment ils sont utilisés par les ingénieurs pour économiser du temps et de l’argent.


Diplôme et expérience minimale requise
•    Actuellement en formation ingénieur ou Master dans l’éducation supérieure en France dans les domaines de l'optique, le génie électrique ou physique avec une majeure optique, photonique ou connexe

•    Anglais courant et utilisé comme langue de travail/ documentation
•    Connaissances de base en processus et outils de simulation physique
•    Capacités rédactionnelles, de compréhension et de présentation en anglais
•    Expérience de base en programmation et script (Python, C# ,C++…)
•    Aptitudes en résolution de problèmes, en communication et en gestion de temps
•    Volonté d’apprendre


Compétences privilégiées
•    Expérience en C# ou autre langage de programmation orienté objet pour le développement de plugin (.DLL)
•    Connaissances en algorithmes d’optimisation
•    Connaissances en tracé de rayons
•    Connaissances en édition de vidéos
