Summary / Role Purpose

Ansys Germany GmbH is searching for a working student helping in the field of sensor simulation in order to validate synthetic sensor data and compare them to real measurements executed at the Charissma Institute in Ingolstadt. The work will include the development of sensor models for optical sensors as camera and LIDAR sensors as well as RADAR sensors. The working student will learn how to use the Ansys Simulation tools Ansys SPEOS for optical sensors and Ansys HFSS/SBR+ for RADAR sensor and also give insight to the use of the sensor models in the Ansys VRX real time simulation software. Concepts to compare synthetic sensor data to real sensor raw data need to be developped and implemented in order to measure the quality of the sensor simulation. 


Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the testing and validation of automotive camera and LIDAR sensors under real and virtual conditions by using ANSYS SPEOS and ANSYS HFSS physics based simulation
  • Support the development of the testing and validation process for aligning our physics-based sensor model development with real test runs executed in the rain lab of CARISSMA at the Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt
  • Analyze sensor measurement data under rain and fog weather conditions
  • Create the 3D model to be used for the virtual validation of tests, including the definition of materials and geometries using ANSYS geometrical editors
  • Perform static (ANSYS SPEOS) and dynamic (ANSYS VRXPERIENCE) simulations to extract virtual sensor data
  • Support the development of a verification methodology and model validation for correlating real and virtual measurements


Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience

  • Bachelor degree in the field of natural sciences, computer science or engineering
  • Knowledge in CAD model development
  • Good understanding of Light and Radiation / Material Interaction
  • Knowledge of radiance and HF technologies and radiometric measurements
  • Knowledge of simulation technology and ray tracing
  • Fluency in English


Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience with C++ and Python is beneficiary
  • Ability to take initiative, behave with integrity and respond maturely to direction 
  • Ability to meet timelines 
  • Ability to work in a geographically distributed development environment and equires excellent communication skills
  • Fluency in German or French
