Summary / Role Purpose

The Senior R&D Engineer is responsible for the development of software products and supporting systems. In this role, the Senior R&D Engineer will collaborate with a team of expert professionals to understand customer requirements and accomplish development objectives. 

This engineer will join the Development team bringing a new software product for the modelling of electric machine drivetrains from prototype to customer release.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Participates in planning, architecture, or research activities
• Performs product design and development activities requiring extensive analysis in areas such as user experience, software design and solver research. Acts as a technical reference for the product.
• Employs best practices and maintains them through technical reviews and mentoring
• Performs complex bug verification, release testing and beta support across multiple products.  Research problems discovered by QA or product support and develops solutions.
• Researches and understands the marketing requirements for products, including target environment, performance criteria and competitive issues. May work with strategic customers or proxies to assess needs and develop solutions
• Works independently with minimal supervision and may take on some planning and mentoring responsibilities
• May be responsible for managing interns or co-ops but typically does not have direct reports

Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience

• BS in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 5 years’ experience, MS with 3 years’ experience, or PhD with 1 years’ experience
• Significant commercial experience with angular 2+/react and/or other prevailing frontend frameworks
• Exposure to writing enterprise products using custom elements schema
• Commercial experience with writing live data consumption layers from multiple data sources like REST API, WebSockets and custom web assembly libraries
• Proven track record of crafting robust and efficient code

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

• Excellent technical knowledge and commercial experience with MVC architecture, factory, observer, singleton patterns
• Experience using and writing python utilities and exposure to consuming and declaring python annotations and decorators
• Exposure to declarative UI principals and typescript
• Experience in delivering high-quality products in a large-scale commercial software development environment
• Passion for crafting robust and efficient code
• Ability to overcome obstacles and drive projects to completion
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work collaboratively across teams and geographies, and to mentor junior developers
