Summary / Role Purpose

The Senior R&D Engineer (m/f/d) is responsible for the development of software products and supporting systems. In this role, the Senior R&D Engineer will use advanced technical and problem-solving skills to help the team tackle complex issues, satisfy customer requirements, and accomplish development objectives. 

The Meshing Development Unit (MDU) is seeking a Senior R&D Engineer, to maintain, research and further develop core algorithms and data structures, as well as software infrastructure supporting development of high performance, and memory efficient code for mesh generation and geometry processing. The software development environemnt consists of a unified framework allowing specialization for different target architectures such as CPU’s and GPU’s. This role requires a background in computational geometry, geometry processing and/or numerical mathematics. Interest in operating systems, hardware architecture, and compilers are highly desirable. The background and experience in combination with the interest of the successful applicant will be considered for work assignments. This developer can expect to be engaged in all stages of the development cycle from capability planning to research and software implementation.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Participates in planning, architecture, and research of high performance and memory efficient software products for mesh generation and geometry processing
• Performs complex development activities that may require extensive analysis in areas including including design, implementation, maintenance, testing and documentation.
• Employs best practices and helps to maintain them through technical reviews and mentoring
• Performs complex bug verification, release testing and beta support for assigned products.
• Researches problems discovered by QA or product support and develops solutions
• Researches and understands the marketing requirements for a product, including target environment, performance criteria and competitive issues. May work with strategic customers or proxies to assess needs and develop solutions
• Works independently with minimal supervision and may take on some planning and mentoring responsibilities
• May be responsible for managing interns or co-ops but typically does not have direct reports

• Contribute to the development of high performance and memory efficient software products for mesh generation and geometry processing.
• Collaborate with a team of expert professionals to understand customer requirements and accomplish development objectives. 
• Investigate problems discovered by the quality assurance or product support teams and develop solutions.

Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience

• BS in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 5 years’ experience, MS with 3 years’ experience, or PhD with 1 year experience
• Commercial experience with software design and development methodologies

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

• Background in developing high performance and memory efficient meshing and geometry algorithms
• Knowledge with Python and C/C++ 
• Keen interest in mesh generation
• Keen interest in programming and algorithm development. 
• Strong analytical skills.
• Background in computational geometry and discrete geometry processing
• Exposure to discrete mathematics
• Ability to overcome obstacles 
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
• Ability to work collaboratively across teams and geographies
