The Meshing Development Unit (MDU) is seeking an Intern for meshing algorithm development. The Intern will be part of a team which is responsible for research, design, and implementation of meshing functionality in support of multiphysics solvers. This work requires an analytical and curious mind with strong interest in mesh generation, computational geometry, numerical methods and software development. The background and experience, combined with the interest of the successful applicant will be considered for the work assignment. Topics of interest are surface and volume mesh generation algorithm development as well as mesh generation software infrastructure. For example, algorithms for mesh update during fracture propagation, polyhederal volume mesh refinement or coarsening, update and reconstruct spline surfaces to capture the shape of the model during deformation. An area of special interest is methods for creation of spline models as used in IGA. Componentization of mesh generation software packages is also an area of interest. The Intern will work closely with developers and other members from the meshing software development team.



  • Design and implement meshing algorithms.

  • Work efficiently in a complex mixed language code base, written in Python, C/C++, on Windows and Linux.

  • Participate in and collaborate with other development, documentation, and testing professionals in all phases of the software development life cycle.

  • Coordinate with and assist other product creation teams and customer support representatives involved in meshing large, complex geometries.



  • Pursuing a PhD degree in Mechanical, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Computer Graphics or related engineering field.
  • Currently enrolled in a full-time degree program and returning to university after the completion of the internship program.
  • Knowledge of mesh generation, computational geometry or computer graphics algorithms.
  • Experience with C/C++, MATLAB, and/or Python.



  • Knowledge of physics simulation, e.g. FEM.
  • Interest in programming and data structures.
  • Prior experience of large scale software development.
