Summary / Role Purpose

The Director Sales Compensation is responsible for the Worldwide Sales Compensation program to ensure alignment and adherence to best practices. This sales leadership role is responsible the programs that govern the design and administration of sales incentive compensation plans that reinforce the strategic intent of each sales role, rewards overachievement and motivates sellers to make incremental sales.


Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead creation of Sales Compensation Plan and delivery of documents
  • Establish process for compensation design and drive necessary analytics and support during design process; works with Sales, HR, Finance and Executive Leaders
  • Oversee analysis to determine effectiveness of sales compensation plans
  • Redesign efforts, including changing specific plan elements to align to strategy
  • Set annual and quarterly quotas
  • Territory balancing and redesign efforts, including territory software
  • Oversees and owns comp analysis to measure the performance of STIP plans and correlation between result and payouts
  • Consults and provides guidance to all levels within the organization (Sales leadership, HR business partners and executives) related to sales incentive compensation policies, practices, programs, compensation philosophy, and compliance requirements; may consult and provide guidance on job design and organizational structure as it pertains to STIP
  • Work with HR on Pay Level Benchmarking and Pay Mix consistency by role/region
  • Owns quota allocation to support finance, sales teams, etc.
  • Work cross-functionally with HR, finance, and sales management to drive quota-setting process


Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience

  • Education & Years of Experience: Bachelor’s degree in business or related field with 8+ years of demonstrated success designing, implementing, and leading sales compensation OR 12+ years of relevant experience in sales operations.
  • Ability to effectively analyze data to make strategic recommendations and influence business decisions that balance an attractive compensation plan with improved economics
  • Customer focused, ability to form relationships with both home office and field partners
  • Problem solver that balances multiple priorities with a sense of urgency
  • Strong planning, organizational and time management skills are critical
  • Knowledge of regulatory environment and industry trends impacting compensation design
  • Strong leadership capabilities and ability to motivate and inspire a team​.
  • A forward thinker who takes the initiative and identifies gaps in workflows and makes recommendations
  • Exceptional communication, analytical and writing skills
  • Fluent in English and in the local language of the territory


Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • MBA preferred​
  • Strong sales and business acumen​
  • Firm understanding of the enterprise sales process
  • 2 years sales or sales management experience in a business-to-business sales environment.
