The Data & Privacy Governance Team is looking for an Intern to be responsible for performing the day-to-day and execution activities supporting the data and privacy governance program. This role will have an integral role in implementing various roadmap initiatives, including the company’s Global Records Retention Policy. The ideal candidate is comfortable working collaboratively within cross-functional and global teams; completing projects with limited resources, developing and fostering strong cross-functional relationships, continuously learning in areas such as privacy, governance, technology and records management; and navigating various assignments, goals and teams while delivering timely and unified results. This role will have a multitude of responsibilities relating to data collection, usage, sharing and retention. This role will immediately focus on implementing and performing records and retention management as well as day-to-day privacy activities related to regulatory privacy compliance, on-going Privacy Risk Reviews, and Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs).


This position will run as a full-time internship for Summer 2021 and part-time work from Fall 2021 semester onwards.


Roles and Responsibilities


  • Drives and executes various compliance initiatives in furtherance of the data and privacy governance program, including global records and retention management, and creates supporting program documentation.
  • Collects and communicates data and privacy governance requirements, as well as business requirements to key stakeholders across different business units and provides partnership for implementation.
  • Assists the Global Privacy Manager in the implementation and enforcement of data standards and controls relating to data usage, governance, retention and sharing, and ensuring that privacy and other forms of compliance are built-in to existing business processes or new processes are created.
  • Helps to develop and maintain Ansys’ records and retention management program, ensuring data across all media and formats is properly retained, disposed, protected, and classified, by designing and implementing records and retention processes and configuring supporting tool sets.
  • Performs analytical reviews of records management metadata, inventory and storage methods and drives records and retention compliance.
  • Works with appropriate stakeholders across the organization to create a culture that manages data as an enterprise asset.
  • Conducts day-to-day privacy activities such as Privacy Risk Reviews and DSARs; understands and utilizes complex privacy and data protection concepts when conducting reviews and assessments (such as Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) and DSARs).
  • Coordinates and tracks data and privacy risk mitigation and remediation actions across the organization and ensures consistent execution of data and privacy governance initiatives; escalates issues to Global Privacy Manager as needed.
  • Supports and develops training and awareness programs for data and privacy governance initiatives.
  • Uses technology/tools to track projects, manage deliverables and create reporting that supports the program and its objectives.
  • Provides data and privacy governance program coordination as necessary.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled in a degree seeking program
    • Bachelor's degree or higher (Graduate Degree, LLM, JD)
  • Interest in data governance, privacy, cyber security, or related fields; preferably on a global scale
  • Demonstrates both collaborative skills and ability to work well within a team, while completing tasks and projects autonomously if necessary
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, problem-solving, organizational and presentations skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, developing, and deadline-oriented environment
  • Self-motivated with critical attention to detail and deadlines


Preferred Qualifications

  • Privacy professional certification (e.g., IAPP)
  • Professional Records Management Certification (institute of Certified Records Managers)
  • Privacy Professional Certification (International Association of Privacy Professionals)
