Summary / Role Purpose

Develop your R&D and project management skills in a successful and innovative environment within a team experienced in winning, delivering industry and government funded Collaborative R&D projects. These projects inform our product development by working closely with leading industrial, academic, research partners, and product managers to define, bid and deliver across diverse business areas. This role will appeal to someone with a strong background in materials science or engineering, project and proposal management, and networking.


Key Duties and Responsibilities

•Translate product requirements, strategic plans with stakeholders into successful project plans.

•Contribute to winning proposals for funding with project partners and internal stakeholders.

•Attend regular project meetings in the UK, mainland Europe and possibly further afield.

•Manage project technical delivery in support of product development, including negotiating necessary changes to project scope to maximize the relevance of project outcomes.

•Identify and quantify exploitation opportunities, securing IP for Ansys, ensuring the ROI and business case are appropriate.                             

•Identify and action dissemination opportunities for your projects.

•Manage project delivery with the assistance of Project Technical Leads, liaising with internal teams to manage time and resources efficiently.                                                                                        

•Use Agile principles to communicate project requirements internally, and sometimes externally.  

•Prepare project forecasts, manage project spend, report internally/externally, input to audits.

•Build and maintain your subject matter expertise by learning Ansys software, working on case studies, and follow industry technical roadmaps on the subject (contributing where possible).                                                                         

•Establish networks of collaboration and generate goodwill, introductions, and opportunities for the business, within your subject matter expertise, and generally.

•Participate in relevant industry working groups and committees reflecting industry requirements and trends to shape the future direction of our products.

•Work closely with key stakeholders internally and externally to help shape and enable the continued delivery of a strong strategic vision and product portfolio.


Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience

  • Required Education and Degree Type:  PhD in materials science or related science or engineering discipline.
  • Required Minimum Years of Experience: 0-3 years post PhD
  • Experience with simulation and/or physical experimental R&D in a relevant area of materials science/engineering; strong project management skills and relevant experience; excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain strong professional relationships; strong commercial awareness with an interest in business development; organized and self-motivated approach to work, with good time management skills to work to tight deadlines


Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience with simulation software, coding using python, MatLab, machine learning software; project management certification (Prince 2, PMI, or equivalent); experience in agreement and negotiation of complex deliverables; experience at delivering projects and writing proposals within European Commission or InnovateUK funding schemes.  
  • Ability to engage with experts in the subject area, present at international conferences, strong commercial awareness
