Summary / Role Purpose
An Application Engineering Manager is a fully competent, experienced professional that is responsible for engaging with customers, field staff, and development to achieve strategic technical and business objectives, oversee the go-to-market strategy, and assist generate product roadmaps that provide competitive differentiation in the market. He or she has broad knowledge of the Optics product portfolio that is sufficient to educate the broader organization on unique selling points of the products.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of Pre-Sales and Post-Sales support engineers focused on the Ansys Optics portfolio.
- Leverage engineering expertise in optical and opto-mechanical simulation design to provide top-tier technical support for Ansys Speos customers and prospects.
- Take ownership of customer challenges, proactively engaging with key accounts to deliver comprehensive solutions that align with their business and product design needs.
- Work closely with Sales and Account teams to support business objectives within the region.
- Provide on-site customer support whenever needed as per business requirements.
- Responsible for the Optics & Photonics Technical team that supports India & ASEAN regions.
- Support pre-sales and post-sales technical activities, collaborating with customers to understand their engineering workflows and effectively communicate Ansys' value proposition.
- Submit suggestions for product improvement, file defect reports, and verify fixes adhering to defect reporting processes. Participate in the field testing of new releases to ensure that new features and workflows address customer requirements.
- Support Sales and Marketing by conducting demonstrations, webinars, online training, and other meetings.
- Participate in other strategic team and company initiatives as needed.
- Support the expansion of the optics simulation business in India & ASEAN.
Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience
- Education: Master’s degree in physics, Optics, Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Technical Experience:
- Hands-on experience in an engineering software environment.
- Proficiency in commercial optical design software such as Ansys Speos, Zemax, Lumerical or similar engineering simulation products.
- Strong knowledge of optical theory and demonstrated experience in modeling optical systems.
- Skills & Competencies:
- Experience handling a team of young professionals.
- Logical problem-solving abilities with strong analytical skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and spoken English.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with a sense of urgency.
- Professional demeanor with business acumen and a results-driven mindset.
- Ability to work effectively and independently in a distributed team environment.
- Customer Engagement:
- Experience in providing technical support, consulting services, or customer-facing roles.
- Ability to understand complex technical concepts and articulate responses clearly and accurately.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
- Preferred education and years of professional experience in an engineering software environment: Master’s+7 Years, PhD+4.
- A background in the engineering simulation industry.
- Ability to travel up to 50% of the time.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in an engineering software environment.
- Prior experience working directly in a customer-facing role.
