Each semester builds upon the foundational learning that prepares you for more advanced problem solutions. This is a 40-hour per week paid position starting May 2023 and concluding August 2023.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES
Ansys is looking for a mechanical, materials, electrical, or chemical engineering intern to help support Reliability Engineering Services (RES) in the Beltsville office and test/lab facility.

  • Multiple backgrounds and skillsets are desired to assist consulting engineers in failure analysis and testing, with a focus on materials characterization.
  • The intern will analyze the microstructure of additive printed metals utilizing tools such as diamond band saws, semi-automated polishing equipment, vibratory polisher, ion polisher, and electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) using scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
  • Recipes for proper polishing will be researched and trialed to realize robust and repeatable identification of crystal structure and orientation, as well allow for porosity analysis. This data is critical for proper modeling of the additive process and materials by Ansys simulation engineers.
  • The position also involves setup and characterization of plastics for tensile creep/relaxation properties.

 

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Candidate must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Materials, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering, with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Must be currently enrolled in a full-time degree program.
  • An affinity for a hands-on approach to engineering, interacting with a variety of engineering disciplines
  • Good attention to detail, with a curiosity in the physical phenomena driving various processes are essential
  • Sharp problem-solving skills.
  • Team player, responsible, and motivated.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with mechanical and analytical lab equipment, including EBSD
