Summary / Role Purpose
Join the Ansys Student Internship Program to apply your education to solve real world engineering problems, advance career skills and experience work at Ansys. The student intern will be part of the Ansys Customer Excellence team focused on Computational Structural Mechanics. The intern will use the Ansys engineering simulation platform and products to create and apply Ansys simulation solutions in a variety of industries. The intern will get an opportunity to interact with Ansys global leaders. The internship will run for 3 month during the college summer recess.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Create new simulation methodologies, troubleshoot problem set-ups, run simulation benchmarks, and update industry best practices pertaining to modeling and simulation of engineered products & processes
- Update Ansys training course material
- Create technical marketing content
- Perform literature search to locate relevant publications using Ansys or competitive products, as well as experimental data
- Write detailed technical reports and present results to Ansys teams
- Network within the Ansys Customer Excellence team to learn various job functions such as presales support, post sales technical support, consulting services, etc.
- Support testing efforts to determine new feature readiness for commercial release
- Participate in various customer interactions for technical discussions and gathering technical requirements
Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience
For US:
- Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace/Mechanical/Civil engineering or other technical discipline
- Currently enrolled as an engineering graduate student (M.S. or Ph.D.) in an accredited United States university. Ph.D. students should be entering third year or beyond of their program
- Minimum 3.0 GPA
- Authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship by Ansys
- Ready to work at the advertised location without requiring relocation assistance by Ansys
- Motivated to learn. Strong problem solving, communication and time management skills
- Demonstrated skills in writing, understanding, and presenting in fluent English
- Have solid knowledge, research, or experience in applications or development of one of the two following subjects:
- Structural Behavior of soft/hyperelastic/viscoelastic materials: Knowledge in element, contact, adaptive solver, numerical techniques to solve challenges in deformation of soft material in an assembly or focused on physics of material constitutive behavior, fatigue, and aging and its related calibration process. Related application experience may include applications in elastomer seals, vibration isolation systems, biological materials etc.
- Coupled field technology of multifunctional materials or strong multiphysics processes: Knowledge of coupling structural and non-structural degrees of freedom e.g. piezoelectric material, dielectric materials, electrostatic sensors, magneto-structural systems, thermal diffusion mechanics, hydrogen diffusion. Related application experience may include sensors and sensing systems, actuation, energy harvesting, energy storage and batteries, electronic reliability, biological sensors etc.
- Biomechanics and Biomaterials: Modeling of biomedical systems, materials and biomimicking structures using applied finite elements. Applications may include modeling human body parts under physical loading, modeling impact and injury in biological systems, mechanics of soft biological materials, cellular mechanics, bioimaging, modeling biological multiphysics processes like drug diffusion etc..
- Multiscale modeling of materials and structures: Computational homogenization and systematic upscaling of material, interface or structural behavior from subscale to the macroscale using finite element based multiscale modeling schemes and/or concurrent 2 scale multiscale modeling. Applications may include material design for tunable mechanical behavior, rough surface interfaces, modeling of metamaterials for acoustic waveguides etc.
- Application of AI/ML to any of the above topics or general solid mechanics
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
- Knowledge of computer languages –Python, Java, C/C++, FORTRAN
- Knowledge of CAD packages such as SolidWorks, NX, Catia
- Knowledge of Linux OS and general understanding of IT hardware and systems
- Knowledge in Ansys Mechanical, LS-Dyna, Abaqus, Nastran, etc or any open source finite element software
- Experience with preprocessing tools for simulations such as Ansys products, Ansa, Hypermesh, etc.
